Depression

We take a comprehensive approach to treating depression by identifying the vulnerability factors that may contribute to its persistence or intensity.

Almost everyone has experienced thought distortions (e.g. catastrophizing, all-or-nothing thinking, overgeneralizing, mind reading). For someone experiencing depression, these cognitive patterns may reinforce their negative self-talk/self-worth and exacerbate overall symptoms. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we help identify these distortions, and consider alternative thoughts that feel better, but believable. Using approaches from the behavioral activation model, we also explore how behaviors can influence emotions, and help identify where you may be able to take small, manageable steps to reduce symptoms and improve overall well-being.

We think of each person as having their own unique “recipe” — whether it’s specific sleep needs, hobbies, or routines — and we work together to find what helps you feel your best. If needed, we can provide referrals to medication prescribers for adjunct care in improving symptoms.
